Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the Son of God

“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:16-17, ESV)

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1-2, ESV)

Jesus Is Given All Authority on Earth

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me…’ ” (Matthew 28:18, ESV)

“And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, ‘What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.’  And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.” (Mark 1:27-28, ESV)

“And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Peace! Be still!’ And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.  He said to them, ‘Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?’  And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, ‘Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey him?'” (Mark 4:39-41, ESV)

Jesus Teaches God’s Truth

“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17, ESV)

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.'” (John 8:31-32, ESV)

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6, ESV)

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Matthew 24:25, ESV)

Jesus Seeks those Lost in Sin

“For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10, ESV)

“Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10, ESV)

“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17, ESV)

Jesus Was Crucified for Our Sins

“But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:5-6, ESV)

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” (Acts 2:22-24, ESV)

Jesus Has Paid for Our Sins

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Chrsit died for us.” (Romans 5:8, ESV)

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:17, ESV)

Jesus Is Risen

“But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.  Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you.’  So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples.” (Matthew 28:5-9, ESV)

“God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.” (Acts 2:24, ESV)

Jesus Reigns in Heaven

“… Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised— who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” (Romans 8:34, ESV)

“After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” (Hebrews 1:3(b)-4, ESV)

Jesus Wants Us to Follow Him

“And he called to him the crowd with his disciples and said to them, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?…'” (Mark 8:34-37, ESV)

“If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also.  If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.” (John 12:26, ESV)

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, ESV)
